THE BIZ RETURN TO RHODA McGAW WOKING WITH WEST SIDE STORY

The Sharks and Jets come to Woking for a new production of “West Side Story” next month. Presented by one of Surrey’s most dynamic youth theatre companies, The Biz Theatre School, the smash hit multi award winning musical West Side Story is produced by the same exciting team of West End professionals that brought Oliver!, The King and I and Beauty and The Beast to life.

All profits from the performances will go to SHOOTING STAR CHASE Hospice Care for Children. The young performers, ages 8-21, will rehearse the show intensively for only two weeks before the public see the fully staged performance at the Rhoda McGaw theatre in Woking. The young cast are already highly experienced as many of them have performed in leading roles in the West End, in films and on television including The Lion King, Les Miserables, An Inspector Calls and the BBC’s Copycats. Erika Vincent, The Biz principal and director of West Side Story is passionate about nurturing talent from an early age and building the students confidence and abilities throughout their training with her. “We’re so lucky to see these kids grow and improve over time – particularly during our summer school productions as the process is so intensive. They show such dedication and passion every year and it’s their hard work which makes the show so interesting.”

Erika’s career has taken her to the English National Opera Company, Royal National Theatre, the West End as well as being an experienced Director and Producer. For The Biz Erika has produced and directed The Wiz, Guys and Dolls, Oliver, The King and I, Fame the Musical and Beauty and The Beast raising over £20,000 for local Children’s charities. Erika said, “We have supported CHASE Hospice Care for Children for many years now and we’re all delighted to be able to do so again this year, particularly as they have now joined forces with another great charity Shooting Star. We’re certain the show will be a great success and hope our contribution makes a difference for the charity.”

Erika is joined by musical director Richard Cartmale from The English National Opera and the team who have extensive professional experience giving the potential stars of tomorrow all the support they need to put on an amazing show once again.
