Recruitment Experts Tip Off Guildford College Business and IT Students

Two recruitment experts from G2 Healthcare Resourcing shared their top tips for getting hired in a competitive job market with Business and IT students from Guildford College last week.

Paul Budd and Nick McCoy, who founded G2HR 11 years ago, have seen it grow from a local enterprise to one with national coverage, and are currently planning their next stage of their growth and development, including looking for future talent to nurture as part of their sales force.

Their top tips included the optimisation of a personal profile on LinkedIn, using key words on digital job boards, interview techniques, how to write a stand out covering letter and even thinking about how an employer might view personal Facebook activity. They also gave a CV workshop tailored to maximising the strengths of their student audience.

Amongst the current economic climate, where 974,000 young people are unemployed across the country and many employers have a smaller workforce and more choice in who they hire, the advice was particularly timely for the students, who are considering the next step in their educational or career path. Paul Budd said: “There is an even greater need to stand out from the crowd at the moment. This is the time for these young people to think about their long term aspirations and be realistic about pursuing them”. Business student Calvin Da Silva said “It was a really useful session to know what the simple and effective things are that I need to do to ensure my CV stands out and how to use social media to its best in finding jobs to apply for’’.

Guildford College prides itself on its practical, job ready approach to learning and progression. It has recently added Enterprise and Entrepreneurship courses to its Business and IT sector. For more information Tel: 01483 448585 or visit www.guildford.ac.uk

A man who stole a car, drove it the wrong way round the Guildford one way system, rammed a police car and ran off after crashing it into the entrance gate at Mount Browne, Surrey Police's Headquarters, was sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of aggravated vehicle taking at Guildford Crown Court on 20 July.

Neighbourhood Inspector Tim Shaw explains the proposed changes to Surrey Police buildings in Guildford borough and invites the public to share their views on where they would like to meet their Safer Neighbourhood Team.
